Counseling Intern

Hilary Riley, Intern (She, Her)

Have you felt overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself or those you love? Do you feel emotional pain that you may or may not be able to explain? Are you wanting to heal but not sure where to start? Life experiences can affect people in ways that are not always obvious. You may feel overwhelmed by emotions that seem to come out of nowhere or find yourself struggling with anxiety, anger, trust, or the need to maintain control. Maybe you have learned how to function to keep moving forward while still carrying experiences you have never been able to process. As a counselor in training, I can provide a safe and supportive place to slow down, make sense of what you have experienced, and begin moving forward. I believe every person should feel valued and heard because your story matters.

Much of my professional career has been spent working alongside members of the Deaf and disability communities.  I am fluent in American Sign Language, ASL. These experiences have shaped the way I listen, how I build relationships, and how I understand another person’s experience. I have learned the importance of cultural humility, listening beyond spoken words, and taking the time to understand each person and their journey. My work primarily focuses on individuals with developmental disabilities, caregivers, grief and loss, and trauma.

Hilary ASL Intern

I have training in Internal Family Systems and a foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I draw from these approaches while considering each client’s experiences and goals. I believe that each person brings their own strengths and challenges into counseling, and I want to meet clients where they are.

I am comfortable sitting in the mess of life and walking alongside you. I believe healing does not always happen in a straight line, and you do not have to have everything figured out before you begin. Together, we can slow down, listen to what is beneath the noise, and begin to understand the parts of your story that may have felt difficult to name. Your story matters, and I am here to help you find your voice within it. My hope is that, together, we can move from feeling as though life is simply happening to you toward living a life that feels more intentional, meaningful, and truly your own.
